Official State Visit Schedule on the 19th-20th
Russian President Vladimir Putin will make a state visit to Vietnam for two days starting on the 19th at the invitation of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to discuss cooperation measures between the two countries.
Vietnamese state-run Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Russian state-run TASS news agency reported on the 18th (local time) that President Putin will meet with General Secretary Trong, President Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and other top four leaders of Vietnam.
On the 19th around noon, President Putin will attend a welcoming event hosted by President Lam at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. On the morning of the 20th, he will have breakfast with Prime Minister Chinh to discuss various issues including the economy.
The leaders of the two countries are expected to discuss ways to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership in various fields such as trade, economy, and science during this meeting. In particular, there is an expectation that many discussions will focus on the trade sector.
The two countries plan to adopt a joint statement reaffirming the principles of the comprehensive strategic partnership and sign related documents. Yuri Ushakov, Kremlin foreign policy advisor, said the day before, "(The two countries) will sign several agreements in various fields," adding, "About 20 agreements are being prepared."
This is President Putin's fifth visit to Vietnam and his second state visit since 2013. The two countries established a strategic partnership in 2001 and upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2012.
