Goheung-gun, First Local Area to Pass National Industrial Complex Preliminary Feasibility Exemption at Cabinet Meeting

Acceleration Expected in Launch Vehicle Company Clustering

On the 18th, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the government has finalized the ‘Goheung Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex Development Plan’ as a national policy project at the 27th Cabinet Meeting presided over by the President.

The Goheung Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex is the first case in a local region to pursue exemption from preliminary feasibility study among the 15 new national industrial complex candidate sites announced last year. With the approval at this Cabinet Meeting, it is expected that the exemption from the preliminary feasibility study and rapid project implementation will be possible.

Gong Young-min, the county governor, said, “We welcome the approval of the Goheung Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex at the Cabinet Meeting together with about 62,000 residents of Goheung-gun and over 700,000 compatriots.” He added, “As the space launch vehicle national industrial complex is rapidly promoted, the county will expedite administrative procedures and respond swiftly to advance the settlement period of launch vehicle companies.”

He continued, “Now is the golden time for fostering the space launch vehicle industry. We will build essential infrastructure facilities early, such as the private launch site and launch vehicle technology commercialization center, which were confirmed for exemption from the preliminary feasibility study last year. We will also make efforts to ensure that the four-lane expansion project of the national industrial complex connecting road for improved accessibility proceeds without delay,” showing a strong commitment to fostering the space launch vehicle industry.

Meanwhile, the Goheung Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex will be developed over approximately 460,000 pyeong in the Bongrae-myeon area of Goheung-gun. The procedures for exemption from the preliminary feasibility study will be completed as quickly as possible, and the industrial complex plan is scheduled to be established by the first half of 2025.
