Warner Bros. Resumes Korean Film Production
Aiming to Start Filming Within the Year... Casting Progressing

Actor Choi Min-sik, who demonstrated his enduring presence with the film 'Pamyo,' has been considered for the lead role in the Hollywood remake of the American film 'The Intern (2015).' According to the film industry on the 18th, the production company Anthology Studio has prioritized Choi Min-sik and is in close contact with him.

'The Intern' tells the story of Jules (Anne Hathaway), a CEO who achieved a success story just one year and six months after starting her business, hiring seventy-year-old Ben (Robert De Niro), a man rich in life experience, as an intern. It heals the anxiety and wounds hidden behind work addiction through advice and comfort delivered by a true adult. The film interestingly shows cooperation that transcends generational differences while conveying the anguish and conflicts of characters caught in different situations with realistic emotions. Choi Jae-won, CEO of Anthology Studio, said, "We are looking for a female director."

Warner Bros. originally planned to produce the remake in 2020. However, they suddenly withdrew from Korean film production and did not materialize the project. The dying spark was revived recently as Warner Bros. resumed Korean film production.

Ben, played by Robert De Niro, is highly likely to be portrayed by Choi Min-sik. Industry insiders said, "He was the actor cast when the production was first attempted," and "They are coordinating detailed discussions with Anthology Studio."

Choi Min-sik is enjoying another prime period starting with Disney+ 'Casino,' which was produced after the 'The Intern' remake was canceled. In particular, 'Pamyo,' in which he starred as the geomancer Kim Sang-deok, was released last February and recorded a cumulative audience of 11,911,209, achieving box office success.
