On the 13th, a post titled "Malicious Hit-and-Run Offender Paints Over Damage" was uploaded to an online community. The author, Mr. A, who experienced this incident on the 27th of last month, said, "There were many bug marks on the car, so I didn't realize I had been in an accident until I washed the car on the 6th. After checking the black box, I found something absurd was happening to me."
According to the black box footage shared by Mr. A, the offending vehicle, which was parked to the left of Mr. A's car, scratched the left bumper, wheel, and light of Mr. A's vehicle while parking. Mr. A claims that the offender got out of the car, inspected the damage, and then painted over the accident marks with white paint matching Mr. A's car color.
Mr. A explained the situation: "On the day of the accident, as I approached my car to get in, a strange person came out from near my car. At first, I thought he was a thief looking for an unlocked car door, but after confirming my car doors were properly locked, I found it suspicious and looked at him again. He staggered away, so I just thought he was a drunk old man." He added, "I never imagined he would cause an accident and then paint over it."
Mr. A continued, "It was nighttime, and I don't think he was a professional painter because he used regular white paint, not automotive paint. It seems he fled when I appeared while he was painting my car after causing the accident. Now that I think about it, he might have been intoxicated." He also said, "I have reported the incident to the police, and after giving a statement, the offender has been identified. I expressed to the police my intention to press charges for both hit-and-run and property damage due to the painting. However, the police said it is difficult to recognize property damage because the painting was done in a CCTV blind spot."
Mr. A said, "The black box only recorded the accident itself, and although I couldn't confirm directly, the police said nearby CCTV only captured the offender walking around my car and his own car before and after the accident." He added, "I even received a notification from the other party's insurance about property damage claims, but the offender hasn't apologized at all. According to the traffic investigation police, the offender admitted to painting the car but claimed, 'Other cars have hit my car many times too. I took my own measures accordingly,' which is frustrating." He asked, "The police say it's difficult to apply property damage charges, but is it really impossible to establish hit-and-run and property damage charges? The offender admitted guilt, so can't he be criminally punished?"
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "Whether the charges will be recognized or not, the police don't know," "You should be grateful that the offender was caught," "I don't understand why he would do such a ridiculous thing when insurance could just handle it," "He put some effort into it," and "There are so many strange people in the world."
