Dobong-gu Operates Heat Reduction Facilities Such as Shade Sails and Cooling Fogs to Combat This Summer's Heat

Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) will expand the operation of heatwave mitigation facilities this summer to help residents stay cool.

The district announced that, anticipating higher-than-average temperatures this summer according to the Korea Meteorological Administration's forecast, it will install 12 additional locations of cooling fog and operate a total of 186 heatwave mitigation facilities throughout the area.

This year, the installed and operated heatwave mitigation facilities include 84 shade shelters, 8 cooling fog units, 6 smart shelters, and 88 other mitigation facilities.

In particular, smart shade shelters that automatically unfold by detecting external wind speed and temperature have been expanded at crosswalks and parks with high pedestrian traffic.

Additionally, pergola-type cooling fog and wire-type cooling fog units were installed at the district office plaza and the entrance to Dobongsan Mountain, respectively. Cooling fog is a heatwave mitigation facility that sprays fine water mist during heatwaves, lowering the surrounding temperature and reducing fine dust.

For residents waiting for buses, the number of smart shelters equipped with air conditioning devices at bus stops has also been increased.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We are establishing and implementing a thorough prevention system to minimize heatwave damage to residents. We will protect the safety and health of residents with a meticulous approach that prepares for any situation.”

The district has been implementing a comprehensive heatwave countermeasure plan since the 20th of last month. The plan includes operating cooling shelters, emergency welfare support for heatwave-vulnerable groups, heatwave safety measures for outdoor workers, and major accident prevention measures.

Currently, a situation management task force is operating to enable prompt and effective responses according to the heatwave crisis level, and residents are being informed of heatwave action guidelines through various promotional channels.

A district official stated, “When a heatwave warning is issued, a comprehensive support situation team composed of response departments will be activated to take immediate action in heatwave crisis situations.”
