The Story of Siheung Haenggung and Hoamsanseong Told by Historian Sim Yonghwan

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that on June 26 at 7:30 PM, it will hold a popular history lecture titled "Siheung Haenggung History Special Lecture" by renowned history lecturer Shim Yong-hwan for residents at the district office auditorium.

The event was organized to raise awareness of the historical value and significance of "Siheung Haenggung," where King Jeongjo stayed overnight during his procession to Hwaseong, and "Hoamsanseong," the district's only nationally designated cultural heritage site.

Siheung Haenggung is the place where King Jeongjo stayed during his procession to Hwaseong Hyeonryungwon to pay respects to his father, Crown Prince Sado. It served as a communication space where the king listened to the stories of the people through gyeokjaeng (a traditional dispute resolution method).

The district is conducting the "Joint Reenactment of King Jeongjo's Royal Procession" event in collaboration with Seoul City and others to commemorate Siheung Haenggung and promote its historical symbolism.

Hoamsanseong is a 1,547-meter-long mountain fortress built around a 347-meter-high ridge, dating back to the Silla period. It was a fortress used during the war between Silla and Tang China and served as a garrison for Joseon troops during the Imjin War. Inside the fortress is a well (22m east-west, 12m north-south, 1.2m deep) that was recorded to have been used as a military water source during the Imjin War.

Applications can be made either through online pre-registration (220 people) or on-site registration (100 people). Online pre-registration is available from 9 AM on June 17 until midnight on June 24 via Naver Form, and on-site registration can be done from 6 PM on the day of the lecture, June 26, at the district office auditorium.

The district plans to hold a second special lecture in October to coincide with the joint reenactment event of King Jeongjo's royal procession. A popular history lecturer will be invited to explain the composition of King Jeongjo's procession and the importance of the Eulmyo Year procession at the event venue established on the site of Siheung Haenggung.

Additionally, in October, a "Geumcheon Historical Field Trip" program will be operated for 30 residents. Participants will visit Hoamsanseong, Hoapsa Temple, and the tomb area of the Yangdogong branch of the Sunheung An clan to learn about the district's history and cultural heritage firsthand.

The district plans to produce videos of the two history lectures and the Geumcheon historical field trip program to promote Geumcheon-gu's cultural heritage.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope this Siheung Haenggung history special lecture will widely promote the value of Geumcheon-gu's history and cultural heritage," adding, "We will plan meaningful and easily accessible history programs for Geumcheon residents and actively promote them."

Shim Yong-hwan is a popular historian appearing on TV programs such as KBS's "History Journal That Day," "A Very Historical Journey," TVN's "Accidental Adult," and MBC's "Midnight Ghost Stories." He also runs a YouTube channel called "Currently Living Shim Yong-hwan" with 200,000 subscribers. His representative works include "Korean History at a Glance," "History War," and "Kind Korean History."
