Taiwan Government Warns Citizens "Party Formation Prohibited with Support from China"

The Taiwanese government warned its citizens on the 17th not to form political parties with the support of China.

According to Yonhap News and local media on the same day, the Taiwanese Ministry of the Interior issued a press release stating this and pointed out that such actions could violate the National Security Act and the Anti-Infiltration Act.

This appears to be a response to Taiwanese singer Heo Ichi revealing on his social media (SNS) that he received a letter from the Chinese company Beijing Ciguang Film, TV & Media Co., Ltd. requesting support for the establishment of a new political party in Taiwan. The companies mentioned business deals that could be gained if they supported the party formation and demanded regular attendance at meetings held in China.

Earlier, in October last year, Taiwanese prosecutors indicted some pro-China politicians on charges of violating the Anti-Infiltration Act, alleging they ran for local elections under the direction of the Chinese Communist Party.
