Local media reported on the 17th that Israel's wartime cabinet, convened after the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war last October, will be abruptly disbanded after about eight months.
According to Yonhap News and local media on the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially announced the 'disbandment of the wartime cabinet' at a security cabinet meeting held the previous night.
Following the disbandment of the wartime cabinet, local media predicted that sensitive issues related to the Gaza Strip war will be decided in a 'special meeting' attended by a small number of participants, and then ratified by the security cabinet.
However, there are also observations that this special meeting is unlikely to include far-right politician and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who had hoped to participate in the wartime cabinet.
The Israeli wartime cabinet was formed on October 11, four days after Hamas's preemptive surprise attack on October 7 last year. A total of six members participated, including three voting ministers?Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Blue and White Party leader Benny Gantz?and three non-voting observers, deciding important matters during the war with Hamas.
However, Netanyahu's ultra-hardline policies and lack of a plan for governing the Gaza Strip drew criticism from Gantz and Gallant. After conflicts, Gantz declared his withdrawal from the wartime cabinet on the 9th.
