Korea Energy Agency to Conduct Campaign in July and August
LG Electronics is conducting the 'ThinQ 26 Degrees (℃) Challenge' campaign with the Korea Energy Agency to enable anyone to easily maintain an optimal indoor temperature during summer and participate in energy saving through the LG ThinQ app.
On the 14th, LG Electronics signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding for the Promotion of Energy Saving Culture and Establishment of Efficient Energy Use Foundation' with the Korea Energy Agency at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by Yoon Dae-sik, Executive Vice President of External Cooperation at LG Electronics, and Lee Sang-hoon, Chairman of the Korea Energy Agency, among others.
LG Electronics and the Korea Energy Agency will run the ThinQ 26 Degrees Challenge for two months from next month through August. This challenge can be joined by linking LG Electronics air conditioners with the LG ThinQ app and agreeing to declare energy saving and participate in the challenge. Participants need to use the air conditioner at a desired temperature of 26 degrees or higher, which is the government-recommended cooling temperature, for at least 10 hours. The air conditioner usage records are automatically monitored through the app.
The purpose of this campaign is to effectively promote energy-saving activities and increase participation rates during the summer when electricity usage is concentrated. Through the campaign, if the average temperature of 10,000 air conditioners is raised by 1 degree over two months, it can achieve an energy saving effect of about 240,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is enough electricity for approximately 800 households to use for one month.
Based on cumulative participant records, LG Electronics and the Korea Energy Agency will hold a lottery to award gifts such as water purifying humidifiers, heating tents, and air circulators. The higher the proportion of the air conditioner’s operating time at a desired temperature above 26 degrees during the entire usage period in the campaign, the more advantageous it is for selection.
Jung Ki-hyun, Vice President of LG Electronics’ Platform Business Center, said, "We will strive to promote energy-saving activities that can be practiced in daily life through LG premium appliances and the ThinQ app, including this campaign conducted with the Korea Energy Agency."
