Busan Cinema Center to Screen 10 Films on 'Rice: Daily Life and Escape' from 28th to 30th, Including 'Delicious Movie' and 'Three Days Off' as Opening Films
Busan City will host the '2024 Busan Food Film Festa,' a leading festival celebrating film and gourmet culture, for three days from June 28 to 30 at the Busan Cinema Center.
This year, aiming to engage audiences in deeper conversations about film, food, and rice, the festival has prepared a variety of programs and side events under the theme 'Rice: Daily Life and Escape,' divided into three film sections.
This year's opening film is 'Delicious Movie,' created by three directors. This omnibus film, composed of three short stories, will be screened at the opening ceremony on June 28 at 7 p.m.
The stories include: a young adult facing an uncertain future after failing to renew a contract finds comfort in a bowl of rice noodles; another, who chooses to end a relationship after 1,000 days, marks the occasion with tteokbokki; and two mothers feeling neglected by their daughters find healing over a bowl of ramen on Nodeul Island.
By observing characters who regain vitality through food, the audience can reflect on the meaning that food brings to our lives.
This year's Busan Food Film Festa consists of three film sections: 'Rice: Daily Life,' 'Rice: Escape,' and 'BFFF Choice Movie Dining.'
In the indoor general screening section 'Rice: Daily Life,' films that capture the everyday stories and simple flavors of rice, such as 'Three Days of Vacation' and 'Twelve Months, Eating Soil,' will be shown.
The 'Rice: Escape' section will feature films portraying rice in a new light, including 'Chihwaseon Remastered' and 'Off the Menu.'
'BFFF Choice Movie Dining' is a section showcasing the latest food films. Audiences can enjoy 'French Soup' by director Tran Anh Hung, 'Italian Chefs,' an omnibus film introducing the stories of Italian star chefs premiering in Korea, Vietnam's all-time box office hit 'The House of No Man,' and 'Coming Home Again,' a new film by director Wayne Wang based on the true story of a Korean immigrant family.
Various programs have also been prepared to make the film experience even more enjoyable. Related to this year's theme of rice, 'Cook! Talk!', 'Food Terrace,' and 'Juju Club' will be held.
'Cook! Talk!' is a movie guide program where BFFF programmers provide insights into the food featured in the films before the screenings. 'Food Terrace,' a culinary program where audiences can taste the foods from the films and interact with each other, has sold out every year and will focus on the theme of 'rice' featured in the films.
At 'Juju Club,' all BFFF programmers who prepared the Busan Food Film Festa will share behind-the-scenes stories of the festival while enjoying a drink with participants.
Additionally, a variety of side events will be held for people of all ages to enjoy.
At 'Food Salon,' food content talks with experts will be held on the themes 'Rice as Daily Life' and 'Rice as Escape.'
In the 'Food Zone,' an outdoor space where visitors can enjoy a variety of flavors, trendy food trucks and unique pop-up restaurants will operate. Outdoor plaza events such as the 'Pot-luck Table' will allow visitors to freely eat while watching films and performances.
Since 2022, the 'Theme Zone' has showcased various spaces (booths) displaying rice, side dishes, rice-based alcoholic beverages, and rice products in line with the annual theme of 'rice.'
Programs are also fully prepared, including the 'Food Zone,' where visitors can discover a variety of food brands related to this year's theme of rice; the refreshing 'Craft Beer Zone,' where food can be enjoyed with craft beer; and the 'Flea Market Gongsang,' which features a variety of Busan's craft brands.
The highly popular 'Food Therapy,' a hands-on event where children and families can make vegetable pizzas together, will be available through both online pre-booking and on-site booking to allow many visitors to participate. Various other family-friendly experiences will also be offered.
Some programs, such as 'Cook! Talk!', 'Food Terrace,' and 'Juju Club,' require paid tickets, while the opening ceremony and outdoor screenings are free. Tickets for paid programs can be reserved from the 18th on the official Busan Food Film Festa website or the Busan Cinema Center website.
