Yangcheon-gu Recruiting 50 College Students for Summer Vacation Part-Time Jobs... Learning Mentors and Administrative Roles

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gijae) announced that it will recruit 50 participants for the ‘2024 Summer Vacation University Student Administrative Intern’ program, who will work as learning mentors, administrative support, and welfare helpers for local university students on vacation, from the 19th to the 27th of this month.

Recruiting 20 for General Field, 30 for Specialized Fields, Providing Broad Social Experience and Promoting Win-Win Effects in the Local Community

The recruitment fields are divided into two categories: ▲General Field and ▲Specialized Fields reflecting local characteristics. In particular, the district established three specialized fields (administration, welfare, learning mentor) in January this year to strengthen the program’s substance, which has been well received for providing university students with broad social experience and positively impacting the local community.

The ‘General Field’ recruits a total of 20 people who will assist with civil complaints and institutional tasks at the local community centers and libraries. The ‘Specialized Fields’ consist of 30 people in total, with 10 selected for each of the following: ‘Administration,’ supporting overall administrative tasks at the district office and support centers managed by the district; ‘Welfare,’ supporting socially disadvantaged individuals at welfare centers; and ‘Learning Mentor,’ providing customized learning guidance to elementary and middle school students in the district at regional learning hubs.

Applicants must be residents of Yangcheon-gu who are currently enrolled or on leave at domestic (specialized) universities. However, those who have participated in the administrative intern program within the past year, students from broadcast communication universities, cyber universities, computer institutes, specialized schools, credit bank system students, university dropouts, graduates, and graduate students are excluded.

Selected interns will work five days a week from July 22 to August 16, with working hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The salary is based on the ‘2024 Yangcheon-gu living wage rate,’ and those who attend all working days during the period will receive approximately 1.36 million KRW.

Those wishing to apply can submit their applications online through the district office website from June 19 to June 27. On June 28 at 10 a.m., the district will conduct the first computerized lottery to select 20 for the general field and 60 for the specialized fields (twice the number of recruits). Especially for the specialized fields, only those who pass the first round will undergo a ‘selection evaluation (second round)’ to finalize the 30 selected. The final results of the summer administrative intern selection will be announced on July 3 via the district office website.

Additionally, the district plans to operate special programs separately for all administrative interns, including field trips to major local facilities and special lectures reflecting university students’ interests, to enhance the satisfaction and practical career exploration of the participants.

Yangcheon-gu, an Educational City, Implements Administrative Intern Learning Mentoring Service for Mutual Growth of Mentors and Mentees

As an educational city, the district selects friendly university student administrative interns as learning mentors to foster a self-directed learning atmosphere and reduce private education expenses by providing customized learning mentoring services tailored to the level of local children and adolescents.

Any local elementary or middle school student can apply for the learning program. The learning method involves matching one university student mentor with two mentees, followed by individual counseling to provide subject-focused (Korean, English, Math) learning guidance and mentoring. The learning period is from July 23 to August 14, with options to attend twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday), three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday), or five times a week (Monday to Friday). Each session lasts two hours, with a choice between morning (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or afternoon (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) hours.

Learning locations include five public offices such as ▲Youth Reading Rooms (Sinwol 1-dong and Mok 4-dong) and ▲Community Centers (Sinwol 4, 5, and 6-dong), where two university student administrative interns will be assigned and operated per hub. Those wishing to receive the learning mentoring service can submit an application form by visiting the hub community centers starting June 11 or by emailing the Yangcheon-gu Office’s Autonomous Administration Division.

Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “I hope this summer vacation administrative intern experience will be a valuable opportunity for participants to gain experience and build capabilities during this important time of various concerns about job preparation and career choices.” He added, “Especially through the learning mentoring service promoted as a district specialized project, I hope it will be a precious time for mentors and mentees to grow together by sharing university students’ knowledge and experience.”
