Revealed in response to the question "Have you ever been threatened?"
Regarding the controversy over secondary victimization, "I sincerely apologize to the victim"
A YouTuber who disclosed the identities of the perpetrators in the ‘Miryang Middle School Girl Group Sexual Assault Case’ revealed that one of the perpetrators contacted him requesting to change the photo used in the video.
A, the operator of the YouTube channel ‘Narak Bogwanso,’ responded this way on the 15th in an interview with Nocut News when asked if he had ever been threatened by the perpetrators. A said, “I never received any threatening messages, but I did get an email from one of the perpetrators saying the photo looked strange. It sounded like they were asking, ‘If possible, please use a better photo,’” adding, “It was really absurd.”
A also explained the reason for revealing the identities of the perpetrators. He said, “I have been interested in social issues such as unsolved cases since I was young. Before covering the Miryang case, I covered the ‘Geoje Ex-Girlfriend Assault Death’ case, which received a strong response from subscribers. I was also closely following the Miryang case and had been gathering materials, but then I received a tip and started working on it,” he explained.
Regarding the controversy over private punishment, he stated, “The public support for private punishment does not disappear because the state does not properly punish heinous criminals through official sanctions,” emphasizing, “If appropriate sentences and stronger state punishments for the perpetrators were enforced, I would not be engaging in these activities.”
Regarding the controversy over secondary victimization caused by releasing the video without consulting the victim’s side, he said, “There was a misunderstanding due to an email sent by the victim’s younger brother after the video was uploaded,” and added, “I sincerely apologize to the victim.”
A said, “The biggest thing I felt while making this identity disclosure video was that the perpetrators are truly bad people,” and added, “I hope this case does not end as a fleeting issue, just as the victims said.”
The Miryang group sexual assault case involved 44 high school students from the Miryang area sexually assaulting one middle school girl from Ulsan continuously for one year in December 2004.
