Gwangjin-gu Multicultural Family Korean Language School 'Hangeul First Step' Popularity

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) operates the Korean language school ‘Hangeul First Step’ to support the stable life and social adaptation of multicultural families.

Jayang-dong in Gwangjin-gu is an area where many foreign students and multicultural residents live, as it is home to Konkuk University, Sejong University, and Yangkkochigori (Lamb Skewer Street).

Accordingly, the district has been running the Korean language school since last year, providing customized education by proficiency level to help improve the Korean language skills of marriage immigrants and children of multicultural families.

This year as well, in cooperation with the Gwangjin Family Center, three professional Korean language instructors will provide customized Korean language education by proficiency level for marriage immigrants, children of foreign families, and children of multicultural families. Marriage immigrants are divided into three classes?basic, beginner, and pronunciation correction?according to the students’ proficiency levels, and separate basic classes are operated for children and adolescents.

The curriculum consists of step-by-step basic courses in speaking, listening, and writing, and the education is conducted at the Gwangjin Family Center and the Gwangjin Global Family Center.

Multicultural families who wish to participate in the education can inquire at the Gwangjin Family Center.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I hope that the operation of the Korean language school will help multicultural families settle stably and become self-reliant in the community,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create a happy Gwangjin where residents and multicultural families live together harmoniously through various customized support projects.”
