Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon attended the '2024 Gyeonggi Future Mobility Festa' held on the 15th at Siheung Baegot Saengmyeong Park and emphasized, "Gyeonggi Province, the center of mobility, will lead the development of South Korea."
Governor Kim said, "71% of South Korea's mobility research and development (R&D) investment takes place in Gyeonggi Province, and 62% of mobility researchers live in Gyeonggi." He expressed expectations, saying, "Various investments are being made for the biocluster in the Baegot complex where the event is held, and with combined investments in bio and mobility, it will lead to the development of Siheung City, Gyeonggi Province, and the transformation of South Korea."
According to Gyeonggi Province, automotive companies' R&D expenses in the province amount to 6.2 trillion KRW, accounting for 71.1% nationwide, and the number of researchers is about 23,300, representing 61.6% of the national total.
Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province is promoting initiatives to foster the future mobility industry, including ▲ future car software verification ▲ expansion of eco-friendly vehicle distribution and infrastructure ▲ autonomous driving demonstration complexes and operation of the ‘PantaG Bus’ ▲ establishment of a vertiport for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s UAM demonstration project (Goyang KINTEX).
Additionally, as part of transitioning the energy system, the province is advancing the completion of a hydrogen production and transportation complex (Pyeongtaek), the creation of hydrogen cities (Ansan, Namyangju, Pyeongtaek, Yangju), and mini hydrogen cities (Yongin).
Governor Kim particularly noted, "While the central government cut R&D budgets by nearly 20%, Gyeonggi Province increased its budget by 46%," adding, "To welcome the future first, Gyeonggi is leading R&D investment, with Siheung City at the forefront."
The event, held for the first time this year, runs from the 14th to the 16th. Visitors can directly experience Gyeonggi’s future mobility environment, including drones, eco-friendly urban air mobility (UAM), and autonomous vehicles.
