Busan City Conducts Training to Enhance Competency of Consumer Food Sanitation Inspectors

Enhancing Professionalism and Competence, Increasing Food Sanitation Reliability and Safety

The city of Busan held a "Consumer Food Hygiene Inspector Job Competency Enhancement Training" at the International Conference Hall of City Hall at 2 p.m. on the 14th.

This training was conducted to respond to changes in consumer culture, such as the increase in delivery restaurants and unmanned food stores, and to enhance the knowledge and job qualifications of "Consumer Food Hygiene Inspectors," thereby increasing trust in food hygiene and ensuring safety.


The "Busan Consumer Food Hygiene Inspectors" possess expertise in the field of food hygiene and play a role in verifying compliance with the Food Sanitation Act and other regulations throughout the entire process from manufacturing, processing, and cooking to sales of food, as well as providing guidance and education.


Last year, they carried out various initiatives, including: ▲ a campaign to improve food hygiene standards in preparation for the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) inspection (144 locations); ▲ a pilot project for hygiene consulting at delivery restaurants (80 locations); ▲ food safety management and seafood safety campaigns during the summer vacation season (477 locations); ▲ norovirus prevention activities at group meal facilities (281 locations); and ▲ food poisoning prevention promotional activities (222 locations).


This year, in preparation for the successfully held Busan World Table Tennis Championships, they conducted monitoring activities such as guidance and promotion of food hygiene businesses around the event venue (578 locations), thereby fulfilling food safety duties for international events. In the second half of the year, various activities such as hygiene consulting projects for delivery restaurants and food poisoning prevention campaigns are planned.


The training session covered topics for 110 city consumer food hygiene inspectors, including: ▲ food hygiene laws and the latest amendments; ▲ food labeling and advertising laws and standards; and ▲ understanding and tips for food hygiene inspections, along with case studies.


To provide high-quality training, two expert instructors in the food sector were invited with the cooperation of the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute.


Lee Sora, Director of the City’s Public Health Bureau, stated, "We expect that this job competency enhancement training will further improve the professionalism and job performance of consumer food hygiene inspectors, enabling us to provide food that citizens can trust even more."
