President Yoon Suk-yeol said on the 15th, marking the 25th anniversary of the First Battle of Yeonpyeong victory, "As the Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, I promise to maintain a firm state of readiness and surely protect the lives and safety of our people."
Through Facebook on the same day, President Yoon emphasized, "The history from 25 years ago once again reminds us that peace can be protected by strong power."
President Yoon stated, "On June 15, 1999, the North Korean patrol boat that crossed the NLL (Northern Limit Line) launched a preemptive surprise attack on our patrol boat, starting the battle, and our navy bravely confronted and overwhelmingly repelled the North Korean patrol boat."
He added, "Together with our heroes, we will definitely build a stronger Republic of Korea," and "I deeply appreciate the hard work of the military personnel who are dedicating themselves to defending our territory even at this very moment."
Since the 10th, President Yoon has been on a state visit to three Central Asian countries: Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. On the 15th (local time), he is scheduled to conclude his tour and return home.
