50s Man Who Died After Assaulting Ex-Wife and Daughter, It Was Because of Good Ceremony Expenses

"Assault Committed to Raise Good Expenses"

The case of a man in his 50s found dead in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, was revealed to have been committed by his ex-wife and daughter with the intent to extort money for a gut ritual.

On the 14th, Yonhap News reported, "The Yangju Police in Gyeonggi arrested the ex-wife B and daughter C of a man in his 50s, A, on charges of assault leading to death, after A was found dead inside his home at around 8 a.m. on the 9th of last month."

During subsequent police investigations, the suspects stated that the crime occurred during an argument over personal family issues while they were intoxicated. They also claimed that A had previously committed sexual crimes against his children. However, they strongly denied any intent to murder.

However, police investigations revealed that their statements were false. Based on past records and testimonies from acquaintances, the police concluded that the alleged faults of A, which the suspects cited as motives, had no basis.

The police conducted further investigations and, after persistent questioning, obtained confessions from the suspects. The investigation revealed that they were involved in shamanistic beliefs and committed the crime to extort money from A for the gut ritual. The crime scene, which was also B’s recent residence, was the home of D, a shaman acquaintance of B.

B had been demanding money from A for the gut ritual before the crime, and when A refused, she continued to assault him. A was beaten indiscriminately for three days and eventually died while lying in a room.

The police confirmed circumstances indicating that the suspects hastily fabricated conversations on the day of the incident to conspire in the crime, and that B led the extortion attempt. In addition to B and C, the shaman D was also found to have participated in the assault. All three were arrested and sent to prosecution on charges of robbery and murder. B’s teenage son and D’s husband, who were directly or indirectly involved in the crime, were also criminally charged and sent to prosecution without detention.
