Hwaseong-si Takes Action to Manage 9,300 Households Vulnerable to Heatwave Health Risks

567 High-Risk Individuals Including Elderly Living Alone Receive Intensive Care

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 14th that it will intensively manage the health of vulnerable groups due to the increased risk of heat-related illnesses during the summer heatwave.

The city explained that this initiative aims to prevent heat-related illnesses and address welfare blind spots for vulnerable groups who have difficulty monitoring their health due to mobility issues or poor living conditions.

Until the end of September, 25 visiting nurses selected as disaster helpers will visit or call 9,303 vulnerable households in the area during heatwave warnings to check their health status and provide health guidelines.

In particular, 567 high-risk individuals for seasonal illnesses, such as elderly people living alone with mobility difficulties, will be provided with heatwave prevention health management items, including leaflets on heatwave health guidelines, oral rehydration salts, fans, and sun-protective hats to prevent dehydration.

Shim Jeong-sik, head of Hwaseong City Western Public Health Center, said, "During the hottest hours, it is necessary to avoid outdoor work and exercise, stay in cool places, and drink water frequently to manage health in summer. We will do our best to manage the health of vulnerable groups during the summer through visiting health care."
