Ulsan City Holds Ceremony for Elder Abuse Prevention Day

Commendation for Contributors to Elderly Rights Improvement, Declaration of Elder Abuse Prevention

On the afternoon of the 14th at 2:00 PM, Ulsan City will hold the "8th Elder Abuse Prevention Day Commemoration Ceremony" at the Korea East-West Power Corporation Grand Auditorium.

This ceremony has been organized to raise public interest and awareness regarding elder abuse.

The event will be attended by around 250 participants, including workers and elderly users of welfare facilities, as well as citizens. It will include commendations for those who have contributed to improving the rights of the elderly, a declaration ceremony for elder abuse prevention, and a commemorative performance.

Prior to the main event, there will also be a comic and photo exhibition aimed at improving perceptions of the elderly, and an experiential booth simulating the physical conditions of old age.

In conjunction with this event, Ulsan City and the Ulsan Elder Protection Agency have designated the entire month of June as a focused promotional period for elder abuse prevention. During this time, they will conduct outreach education on abuse prevention and display electronic banners to raise awareness.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "We hope that the Elder Abuse Prevention Day event will encourage people to pay more attention to the elderly around them," adding, "Ulsan City will continue to strengthen the reporting and protection system to prevent blind spots in elder abuse, expand education on elder abuse and human rights, and provide unwavering support."

Since 2004, Ulsan City has been operating the Elder Protection Agency and a dedicated shelter for elderly victims of abuse through consignment, in order to more professionally prevent elder abuse and protect human rights.

In particular, this year, the city has newly allocated 10 million KRW from the municipal budget for psychological counseling and treatment for elderly victims of abuse, and is significantly expanding professional counseling and healing programs.
