Reportedly Died After Suffering from Broken Heart Syndrome
A heartbreaking story has emerged of a wife who passed away three days before her husband after being shocked by his terminal diagnosis. The cause of the wife's death is known as "broken heart syndrome." On the 13th, British media outlet The Sun reported the tragic story of British couple Sharon Dan (54) and Wayne Dan (57), who had been married for 10 years. Sharon passed away three days before her husband Wayne.

Wayne was diagnosed with cancer in October last year. Cancer that had previously developed inside his thigh had metastasized to his lungs, making surgery urgent. However, medical staff were ultimately unable to completely remove Wayne's cancer, and in February he was also diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is a malignant tumor that occurs in the bones and connective tissues of various organs in the body, and is known to be a very rare disease.
After the osteosarcoma diagnosis, Wayne was about to start radiation therapy, but the hospital warned that he might die before even receiving treatment. In effect, he was given a terminal prognosis.
Sharon was reportedly deeply shocked upon hearing the news that her husband's life was in danger. Their daughter, Ellie Stewart, recalled that her mother was so fearful, thinking she could not live without her husband, that she stopped eating and drinking.
One day, Ellie received a call that her mother was struggling, and rushed to the hospital where Sharon was admitted. However, Sharon had already died of a heart attack. Exactly three days after Sharon's death, Wayne also passed away as his osteosarcoma worsened.
It was reported that Sharon suffered from broken heart syndrome. The official name of this condition is "Takotsubo cardiomyopathy." It is a disease that manifests when a person experiences extreme stress due to the sudden death or separation from close family or friends. This syndrome is especially common in women after menopause.
The exact cause of broken heart syndrome has not been clearly identified. However, exposure to extreme stress causes an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, accelerates damage to the heart muscle, and increases the risk of deteriorating health. Broken heart syndrome is known to exhibit symptoms similar to myocardial infarction, such as chest pain and difficulty breathing.
