Held Outdoor Outing Event with Over 60 Elderly Living Alone
The Seoul Gangbuk-gu Women's Association (Chairperson Lee Soon-hee) hosted an outdoor outing event called "Seniors More Beautiful Than Flowers" on the 11th, taking about 60 elderly people living alone to Herb Island located in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.
This event was organized as part of a support project for vulnerable groups through volunteer activities by women's organizations, aiming to provide vitality to the daily lives of isolated elderly living alone and to create joyful memories through various experiential activities.
On the day, the elderly participants took a walk around Herb Island and enjoyed healing activities such as making herb pillows and foot baths.
One elderly participant said, "It feels joyful and happy to be outdoors after a long time. Thank you for creating a good time for lonely seniors." Park Hee-won, Chairperson of the Women's Association, said, "It is rewarding and joyful to serve elderly living alone. I hope this day becomes a gift for seniors more beautiful than flowers."
The Gangbuk-gu Women's Association started in 1986 as the "Women's Organizations Association" and changed its name to the "Women's Association" in 2018. In addition to volunteer activities for the elderly, it carries out various activities for community development, including sexual violence prevention education and donations for a warm winter.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "I thank the Women's Association for hosting the outing event for lonely elderly people," and added, "We will strive to prepare various welfare policies for the elderly so that they can live healthy and vibrant lives."
