Guro-gu Accelerates Sabo Projects to Prevent Landslides

Goal to Complete Installation of Drainage Facilities and Tree Planting Before the Rainy Season

Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) is promoting the "2024 Landslide Prevention Erosion Control Project" to prevent forest disasters such as landslides and soil runoff, and to protect the lives and property of residents.

The erosion control project is an important initiative to install erosion control facilities such as check dams and rockfall prevention measures, or to plant trees in barren areas, in order to prevent damage caused by soil, branches, and rocks being washed down and covering houses, roads, etc., due to weakened ground from heavy summer rains.

This year’s target sites are six landslide-prone areas designated at the beginning of the year: ▲ Gung-dong San 11-22 area ▲ Gung-dong San 1-12 area ▲ Oryu-dong 333-4 area ▲ Gaebong-dong San 2-45 area ▲ Oryu-dong San 16-18 area ▲ Hang-dong San 34-1 area.

Since the end of the thawing period in March, the district has been carrying out construction work to install check dams, rockfall prevention measures, and waterways, investing 815 million KRW in the project.

So far, construction has been completed at four of the six sites (Gung-dong San 1-12 area, Oryu-dong San 16-18 area, Gaebong-dong San 2-45 area, Hang-dong San 34-1 area), and the remaining two sites (Gung-dong San 11-22 area, Oryu-dong 333-4 area) are planned to be finished before the start of the full rainy season.

Last year, the district invested 578 million KRW to carry out erosion control projects at five sites, focusing on landslide-prone areas and residential zones where residents’ damage was a concern.

A Guro-gu official said, “We will do our best to prevent landslides through erosion control projects and conduct thorough inspections of vulnerable areas to protect the lives and property of residents. Since it is difficult to make appropriate decisions at the moment a landslide occurs, we ask residents to familiarize themselves with safety guidelines in advance.”
