Yeongdeungpo-gu Supports Inspection of Private Drainage Facilities in Flood-Prone Areas

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will carry out the "Personal Drainage Facility Inspection Support Project" targeting disaster-vulnerable households in preparation for the full-scale summer rainy season.

Personal drainage facilities are household sewage systems that connect domestic wastewater and rainwater to public sewage pipelines. If the maintenance of personal drainage facilities is neglected, various foreign substances can accumulate, causing sewage backflow and other damages during heavy rainfalls.

Accordingly, ahead of the peak rainy season, the district will proactively support the inspection of personal drainage facilities for 124 semi-basement households in areas with a history or risk of flooding.

During the inspection, a specialized company commissioned by the district will visit each household and use an endoscopic camera to closely examine the accumulation of foreign substances and any damage inside the personal drainage facilities.

If the inspection reveals that drainage is hindered due to foreign substances such as dredged soil or oil stains, dredging and cleaning operations will be conducted to secure the flow space. Additionally, if repairs or improvements are needed due to facility damage, the building owners, who are responsible for maintenance under the Sewerage Act, will be notified and guided to carry out the necessary repairs.

Furthermore, during heavy rainfalls, the district provides rapid evacuation support and damage assessment for 124 flood-vulnerable households that have difficulty escaping on their own through the "Companion Partner and Care Service" project.

The district is also divided into five zones, with designated commanders and departments assigned to each zone to establish a thorough patrol system. Efforts include expanding continuous rainwater inlets in flood-prone areas to protect residents from flood disasters.

Meanwhile, the district has been operating the "Flood Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters" from May 15 to October 15, maintaining an emergency duty system according to weather alerts.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "Through this project, we hope residents can spend a safe summer without worries about flood damage. We will continue safety inspections of flood-vulnerable facilities and flood prevention facilities to prevent disasters, and especially take the lead in protecting residents' safety by promptly removing risk factors through continuous patrols."
