Establishing Nowon-Type Youth Employment Support System through Collaboration and Linkage with Related Local Organizations
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will operate the one-stop youth employment service program ‘TEEUM’.
‘TEEUM’ is a project applied for the 2024 regional specialized youth project contest hosted by the Youth Tomorrow Youth Job Center under the Central Youth Support Center of the Youth Foundation. Taking the selection in the contest as an opportunity, the district has decided to actively support employment preparation for youth in blind spots within the region, such as unemployed youth, youth preparing for independence, financially vulnerable youth, and youth caring for family members.
The employment preparation program is a youth career design program composed of four modules: ▲Talent (Self-exploration) ▲Empower1 (Experience design) ▲Empower2 (Self-branding) ▲Upgrade (One-on-one consulting).
In the Talent (Self-exploration) stage, participants identify their temperament and preferences through self-diagnosis, special lectures, and group activities. In the Empower1 (Experience design) stage, youth attend lectures on how to write resumes and portfolios and participate in practical exercises to meaningfully utilize their job-related activities and experiences.
Next, in the Empower2 (Self-branding) stage, participants strengthen their independence capabilities related to employment by understanding their employment direction and characteristics through interview speech and image making, and matching with customized programs. In the final Upgrade (One-on-one consulting) stage, growth plans and employment preparation details are concretized through one-on-one consulting with professional career coaches.
The district plans to support high-quality education needed at each stage based on an understanding of the lives of local youth, in collaboration with universities and youth organizations within the district.
Meanwhile, ‘Youth Tomorrow,’ which operates the ‘TEEUM’ program, is a youth job center opened last year to provide professional and comprehensive support for youth. It consists of employment counseling rooms, interview clothing rental rooms, photo studios, and open study halls. Currently, it operates various customized programs for youth employment success, including ▲employment counseling and education ▲employment support services ▲regional specialized programs.
In addition, the district is promoting youth policies across various fields such as housing, culture, and welfare, along with expanding youth employment policies, including operating a youth participatory budget to guarantee practical participation and rights of youth, who account for about 27% of the total population.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “I hope this project will help vulnerable youth facing the double hardship of a difficult environment and employment to become independent,” and added, “We will continue to closely monitor youth in blind spots within the region and strengthen customized support that is practically helpful.”
