Gong Young-min, Goheung County Governor, Holds Meeting with Yoon Young-bin, Space Aviation Agency Director
Proposal for Preliminary Feasibility Exemption of National Industrial Complex-Linked Road 4-Lane Expansion Project
Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it attended a meeting held on the 12th at the Gyeongnam Aerospace Agency to discuss the establishment of a space industry cluster and the development direction of aerospace and R&D.
At the meeting, Kim Han-gil, Chairman of the National Integration Committee, and Yoon Young-bin, Director of the Aerospace Agency, attended to celebrate the opening of the Aerospace Agency and discussed ways to build a regional cooperation cluster.
In particular, the Aerospace Agency, which opened on the 27th of last month, will serve as the control tower for the aerospace industry leading South Korea to become a space powerhouse, overseeing the country’s aerospace-related policy missions.
In his remarks, Chairman Kim Han-gil said, “Although the three components of the space industry cluster?Gohung, Sacheon, and Daejeon?are geographically separated, if they systematically cooperate under the single goal of fostering the aerospace industry and create synergy, good results will follow.”
Following this, Yoon Young-bin, Director of the Aerospace Agency, stated, “We plan to fully activate a global-level aerospace cluster by consolidating the capabilities of the government, local governments, and the private sector.”
Governor Gong Young-min said, “On behalf of the 60,000 residents of Gohung-gun and 700,000 future generations, I sincerely congratulate the opening of the Aerospace Agency,” adding, “Going forward, the three specialized zones, including Gohung-gun, which is a launch vehicle specialized zone, will continuously communicate and cooperate with the Aerospace Agency to become an innovative hub for the leap to a space powerhouse, striving to complete a private-led aerospace industry ecosystem.”
He continued, “To successfully establish the space launch vehicle industrial cluster, improving residential conditions and accessibility is essential,” and added, “The current four-lane expansion project of the national industrial complex connecting road must be exempted from preliminary feasibility study.”
Meanwhile, the private launch site and launch vehicle technology commercialization center construction projects promoted by Gohung-gun are scheduled to complete the appropriateness evaluation in June this year following the exemption from the preliminary feasibility study last year. The key project, the national industrial complex for space launch vehicles, is also pursuing exemption from the preliminary feasibility study for early construction.
