The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Berlin State Government of Germany have joined hands to support startups.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it held a meeting with the Berlin State Government on the 13th. Following this, a demo day was held for 12 deep-tech startups from both Korea and Germany seeking investment.

This meeting was promoted to concretize the Korea-Germany deep-tech startup support cooperation plan discussed between the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Berlin State Government since the 'Korea-Germany Innovative Small and Medium Enterprises Partnership Forum' held in Berlin, Germany in February last year. During the meeting, ways to discover cooperative projects such as startup exchange programs between the two countries and support measures for the Asia Berlin Summit and the Super Gap Relay IR hosted by the Berlin State Government were discussed.

At the demo day, SYP, the main investment attraction institution for the Super Gap project, and Asia Berlin, an organization under the Berlin State Government, signed a business agreement for mutual collaboration in operating startup support programs. Additionally, six Super Gap startups from Korea, including 'WhiteScan,' and six startups from Germany, including the autonomous driving company 'Deep Safety GmbH,' conducted IR pitching targeting European and domestic venture capital (VC) for investment attraction.

Lim Jeong-wook, Director of the Startup Venture Innovation Office at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “We highly value the cooperation with the Berlin State Government. Germany ranks 5th in the world for unicorns, and Berlin is ranked 13th as a city favorable for startups. Since Korea and Germany have similar high-tech and manufacturing-centered industrial environments, we plan to actively support exchanges between startups of both countries and the entry of domestic startups into Germany.”
