Global Hub City Busan... 'G-Busan Round Table' Held

Busan City Hotel to Host Special Lecture and Discussion on June 13 at 8 a.m. with Institutions, Government Agencies, Universities, and City Council Members Attending: "Significance of a Global Hub City and Immigration Office"

Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Global City Foundation (CEO Jeon Yongwoo) will hold the '2024 G-Busan Round Table' at 8:00 a.m. on the 13th in the conference hall of the Busan City Hotel.

The 'G-Busan Round Table' is a discussion forum established to promote the city's development by having key heads of institutions share their international exchange policies in line with Busan's drive to become a 'global hub city.' First held in 2022, this year marks its fourth edition.

This year, the number of participating institutions has expanded from the previous 14 to include public institutions and universities located in the city, with around 40 participants from a total of 23 organizations expected to attend the event.

At the round table, Lee Kyuhong, Vice President of the Korea Immigration Policy Institute under the Ministry of Justice (former Commissioner of the Incheon Immigration Office), will deliver a special lecture on the topic of 'The Significance of a Global Hub City and the Immigration Agency.'

Since the amendment to the Government Organization Act, which includes the establishment of the 'Immigration and Immigration Management Agency,' was submitted to the provisional National Assembly in February, there has been growing interest in immigration policy and the establishment of the agency as alternatives to the serious population cliff caused by low birth rates and an aging population.

Through the lecture, participants will learn about ▲the environment and current status of immigration policy ▲the economic, social, and cultural effects of immigration policy ▲directions for implementing immigration policy, after which they will share and discuss each institution's policy direction and utilization plans.

Previous round tables have discussed topics such as ▲understanding the pilot project for region-specific visas and local immigration policies ▲sharing information on Vietnam as a comprehensive strategic partner.

The round table is known to have played a significant role in Busan being selected for the Ministry of Justice's 'region-specific visa pilot project,' which was operated on a trial basis in areas with declining populations.

Park Geunrok, Director of Tourism and MICE at Busan Metropolitan City, stated, "Our city and the Busan Global City Foundation are jointly promoting various initiatives to embrace global citizens, and for this, comprehensive public-private cooperation is essential." He added, "Through this meeting, which brings together key figures from public institutions, universities, and city council members, we will proactively seek out and lead progressive policies for Busan as a 'global hub city' through unified public-private efforts."
