"Our Wish Is Unification"... United as One at Mapo-gu Korean Peninsula Grand Festival

June 15th from 1 PM at Hongdae Red Road R5, R6 with booth events
Diverse performances by singer Jang Minho and Pyongyang Art Troupe to foster inter-Korean harmony

"Our Wish Is Unification"... United as One at Mapo-gu Korean Peninsula Grand Festival

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that it will hold the "Korean Peninsula Grand Festival," wishing for peaceful reunification, on June 15th around Hongdae Red Road R5 and R6 in celebration of the "Month of National Defense and Veterans."


The inaugural "Korean Peninsula Grand Festival" this year is an event conducted using the Mapo-gu Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Fund as part of inter-Korean exchange and cooperation projects to promote the development of inter-Korean relations and lay the foundation for peaceful reunification.


This festival is hosted by the Mapo-gu Council of the National Unification Advisory Council, which is promoting peace and reunification projects, and is held together with related organizations and functional groups in Mapo-gu such as the Saemaul Association and Mapo Welfare Foundation to share and spread the value of peaceful reunification.


At Red Road R5, various experience and exhibition booths will operate from 1 PM. In particular, booths such as ▲making a large Taegeukgi flag with messages wishing for peaceful reunification ▲face painting experience ▲war food experience ▲making fans and pinwheels wishing for reunification ▲coloring peace doves ▲Korean Peninsula unification Yutnori experience will be prepared to capture the attention of all generations, young and old.


Additionally, 15 works including the final winning entries of the "Mapo-gu Peaceful Reunification Drawing Contest," held for the future generation who are the protagonists of reunification, will be exhibited at the "Red Road Road Gallery" to add meaning to the festival.


The cultural performance of coexistence connecting the South and the North will take place on the Red Road R6 stage from 6 PM along with the opening ceremony. The stage event will begin with a performance by the SSAC Orchestra, and the MC will be announcer Lee Jae-yong.


At the opening ceremony, awards for the "Mapo-gu Peaceful Reunification Drawing Contest" and a performance announcing the identity of the festival will be held.


In the cultural performance that follows, the Pyongyang Art Troupe will present North Korean dance, wishing for the reunification of the South and North and comforting North Korean defectors. At the end of the event, singer Jang Min-ho’s congratulatory performance will continue, creating a stage for South-North harmony where festival participants unite as one.


Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "We have prepared a festival with North Korean defectors under the theme of 'peaceful reunification' to cultivate a positive awareness of reunification and to reflect on the pain of division," adding, "I hope this festival will widely spread the necessity and importance of peaceful reunification."
