In particular, Yeosu City, as the first city in Jeollanam-do to host this international academic conference since the establishment of the Korean Tourism Association in 1972, expects to enhance its status as a ‘marine tourism and leisure city’ and to leap forward as a leading city in domestic tourism development.

The event will feature approximately 200 academic research presentations, policy seminars involving tourism-related organizations, tourism case studies, poster sessions, a university student idea contest, and regional tourism post-tours, among various other programs.

In the Yeosu City regional special session, thematic presentations and discussions will be held with participation from academia and private experts on topics such as ‘Development of Convergent Content Linking the MICE Industry and Regional Strategic Industries’ and ‘Yeosu Port and Strategies for Revitalizing International Cruise Tourism.’

Additionally, the event will include a signing ceremony for the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Expo and a keynote speech by Takeshi Sakimoto, president of the Japan International Tourism Association, making it a meaningful and rich event.

Further details will be provided on the Korean Tourism Association International Conference website (itc96.tosok.org).

Jung Jae-ho, Director of the Fisheries and Marine Affairs Bureau, said, “This will be an opportunity for officials from the Korean Tourism Association, the largest academic organization in the domestic tourism field, to consider the present and future of regional tourism in Yeosu and explore response strategies,” adding, “We will focus administrative efforts to ensure a smooth and successful event.”
