From the National Library of Korea to Seorae Park
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the "June Early Bookcation" from the 15th at "Seocho Book Street," stretching from the National Library of Korea in Seocho-dong to Seorae Park. Following last month's "Booknic," this month will feature various reading culture programs with the concept of a vacation with books.
An unusual bookcation space will be set up at the staircase plaza of the National Library of Korea. Visitors can experience floating paper boats, a book fishing spot, and rolling book bowling in the book swimming pool where they can immerse themselves in the world of books. At the book beach, they can also fully enjoy relaxing with books. Performances such as circus acts, bubble shows, acrobatics, and balloon shows will continue, providing entertainment for the whole family.
Popular authors' book concerts are also abundantly prepared. There will be a time to listen to "Flower Stories" by Na Tae-joo, the poet most loved by Koreans; a book talk with author Kim Ho-yeon of the bestseller "Uncomfortable Convenience Store" alongside critic Heo Hee; and a sharing session of daily stories with writer Moon Bo-young of "Diary Era" with readers.
Additionally, the "Seoripul Reading Golden Bell," which has seen enthusiastic participation from many children since last October, will be held this time for 3rd and 4th graders in elementary school. About 130 children recruited through pre-registration will compete by demonstrating the knowledge and wisdom gained from reading five selected books.
Along with this, there is an opportunity to get good books for free. By receiving book exchange coupons at nine Seocho-gu public libraries or following Seocho Book Street’s social media (SNS), visitors can choose their desired books from the "5,000-volume Seoripul Book Market." Also, neighborhood bookstores with booths on Banpodaero offer the "Seocho Book Payback" service, where customers who purchase books on the day and return them to the same bookstore within three weeks will receive a full refund.
Meanwhile, the district designated "Seocho Book Street" last April and is filling this street with specialized reading culture content that blends culture, art, and books by linking the National Library of Korea, local libraries, bookstores, and various associations. The book street event, which debuted last May, will continue in the fall after this "Bookcation."
Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, "I hope families can experience reading culture and gain rest and joy as if taking an early summer vacation," adding, "Going forward, Seocho Book Street will continue to foster a rich reading culture for residents through cooperation among the district, libraries, large bookstores, local bookstores, independent bookstores, and publishers."
