"Please Be Born as My Son in the Next Life"...Teen Dreaming of Jiu-Jitsu National Team Passes Away After Organ Donation

Gift of New Life to One Person through Brain Death Organ Donation

A teenage boy who dreamed of becoming a national jiu-jitsu representative donated organs after brain death, giving new life to one person before passing away.

On the 12th, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced that Park Yuhyun (17) donated his liver at Pusan National University Hospital on the 19th of last month. Park was involved in a traffic accident on his way home on the 16th of last month and was taken to the emergency room for treatment but did not regain consciousness. His family decided to donate, hoping that even a part of Park’s body could remain in this world and live longer.

Born as the eldest of three brothers in Changwon, Gyeongnam, Park was described as an outgoing and affectionate child who was proactive in everything. He loved sports and started learning Taekwondo at the age of five, then began practicing jiu-jitsu from the second year of middle school, growing into a skilled athlete who won two gold medals and three silver medals at regional competitions. He also nurtured a dream of wearing the Taeguk mark and winning a medal at the Asian Games.

Park’s father said, "Yuhyun, when you go to heaven, fulfill all the dreams you couldn’t achieve here. I always miss you, who was confident and thought you were the best, and I am proud of you. Let’s be together happily until the end by being born as your dad and mom’s son again in the next life. I love you and miss you," delivering his final farewell.
