Hyosung Heavy Industries to Expand Ultra-High Voltage Transformer Production Capacity with 100 Billion KRW Investment

Simultaneous Expansion of Factories in Memphis, USA and Changwon, Korea

Hyosung Heavy Industries is investing 100 billion KRW to expand ultra-high voltage transformer production facilities in Korea and the United States to respond to the rapidly increasing global demand for power infrastructure.

On the 12th, Hyosung Heavy Industries announced that it plans to invest in expanding ultra-high voltage transformer factories located in Memphis, USA, and Changwon, Gyeongnam. Recently, due to the increase in renewable energy generation in response to climate change and the rising popularity of high power-consuming technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), electric vehicles, and semiconductors, demand for power grid infrastructure is growing worldwide.

Accordingly, Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to increase its ultra-high voltage transformer production capacity by 1.4 times through this investment. At the Memphis plant in the United States, a test line will be added and testing and production facilities will be expanded. Once the expansion is completed, the production capacity of the Memphis plant will double compared to the current level.

The expansion of the Changwon plant, the mother plant for ultra-high voltage transformers, will also proceed simultaneously. A new testing room will be established and production facilities will be increased to significantly boost production capacity.

Hyosung Heavy Industries is currently increasing profits mainly through power grid reinforcement and new expansions in the United States, while establishing an eco-friendly power equipment research and development center in Europe to secure new customers and expand its dominance in the power market.

Recently, it has been leading the market with advanced technology in the special transformer field, winning a large-scale phase-shifting transformer project from the UK power grid operator National Grid. In addition to the UK, it is conducting extensive business in Southern and Northern Europe, the United States, Australia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Woo Tae-hee, CEO of Hyosung Heavy Industries, stated, "We will properly ride the super cycle wave of power equipment and establish ourselves as a top-class supplier in the global market," adding, "We will continue to strive to provide high-quality and sustainable products to more customers."
