On the 11th, SK Innovation announced on the 12th that it held a 'Fire Safety Guardians' pro bono agreement ceremony at the Ulsan Complex (Ulsan CLX), aiming to expand safety culture among social enterprises and promote coexistence with the local community.

At the ceremony, representatives from five Ulsan-based social enterprises in fields such as eco-friendly products, rehabilitation education, and protection for the disabled?Usisan, Marine Innovation, Jeongin Disabled Daycare Center, Sanggae Disabled Protection Workshop, and The Bulup?attended along with SK Innovation employees who will provide education and advisory volunteer services, and about 30 people including SK Pro Bono Secretariat officials.

SK Pro Bono is SK Group’s talent donation volunteer program that started in 2009. Since then, SK Group employees have provided free advisory and other services to social enterprises by leveraging their professional expertise, skills, and experience.

According to the agreement, specialized employees working at Ulsan CLX in fire safety, facility management, and safety operations will form a Fire Safety Guardians team that visits each social enterprise twice a month to provide comprehensive advisory and educational services on ▲worker safety ▲identification and elimination of hazards in process equipment ▲industrial safety and hazardous materials-related laws.

An SK Innovation official said, “Social enterprises face difficulties in establishing or operating systematic fire safety systems due to a lack of manpower and business experience. Through this agreement, we hope that by sharing SK Innovation’s decades of accumulated knowledge and know-how in fire safety, social enterprises will be able to achieve sustainable growth.”

Starting with this Ulsan agreement, SK Innovation plans to conduct pro bono activities related to fire and safety in Incheon and Daejeon, where SK Incheon Petrochem and SK Innovation Environmental Science & Technology Institute are located.

In addition, SK Innovation has been continuously conducting pro bono volunteer activities for social enterprises. From March to this month, SK Innovation formed three groups of pro bono volunteers who helped with the commercialization and sales of social enterprise products. They tested and used products from social enterprises such as ‘Logram,’ which produces eco-friendly fabric softeners, and ‘Creators Lab,’ which makes non-toxic toys, and provided consulting on product differentiation and promotion strategies based on their experiences.

Ok Jin-gyu, Head of SHE at SK Energy, who led the Fire Safety Guardians agreement, said, “We plan to continue pro bono activities to help social enterprises in local communities such as Ulsan, Incheon, and Daejeon, where SK Innovation affiliates operate, establish systematic fire and safety systems.”
