MOU for Free Use of Dongnae Jeong Clan Imdanggong Branch Cemetery on the 11th... Cultural Events Including Senior Citizens' 100th Birthday Celebration Planned
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is opening the ‘Dongnae Jeong Clan Imdanggong Branch Cemetery’ located in Sadang 5-dong to residents in order to preserve valuable cultural heritage in the area and widely promote its historical significance.
The district announced on the 11th that it held an agreement ceremony for the free use and opening of the cemetery at Sangdeokjae within the Dongnae Jeong Clan Imdanggong Branch Cemetery, together with the Dongnae Jeong Clan Imdanggong Branch Association.
The ceremony was attended by Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, Jeong Jin-won, President of the Dongnae Jeong Clan Imdanggong Branch Association, key officials, and local residents.
The ‘Dongnae Jeong Clan Imdanggong Branch Cemetery (83 Solbat-ro)’ is a nationally protected heritage site containing the graves of Imdang Jeonggong, a Confucian scholar of the mid-Joseon period, and his descendants. It preserves his spirit and values and is a cultural heritage that holds a piece of Korean history.
The total area is 40,177㎡ (12,175 pyeong), and it includes monuments such as the Imdang Jeonggong Shindo Monument, Sujuk Jeonggong Shindo Monument, and Jegok Jeonggong Shindo Monument.
This agreement is the result of mutual cooperation between the district and the Dongnae Jeong Clan Imdanggong Branch for regional development, and the clan association provided free use of the entire cemetery grounds, enabling the first step toward opening it to the public.
Going forward, the district plans to regularly organize events to promote the cemetery area externally and develop it into a local attraction where history and culture can be enjoyed.
In October this year, to celebrate Senior Citizens’ Day, the district will hold a ‘Centenarian Celebration’ inviting centenarians and their families from the district, and plans cultural events such as traditional weddings and writing contests.
Additionally, diverse cultural exchange programs will be operated to allow residents and visitors to experience history and culture, and a walking trail will be created around the entire cemetery within Kkachisan Neighborhood Park.
The district will also jointly take responsibility for the preservation and management of the cemetery, installing convenience facilities such as restrooms to ensure visitors can use the site safely and comfortably, and will preserve its historical value through facility management and administrative support.
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “This agreement will serve as a representative exemplary case of cooperation between Dongjak-gu and the Dongnae Jeong Clan Imdanggong Branch to preserve and develop local culture and history. We will continue to expand opportunities for residents to enjoy local cultural heritage in their daily lives and build Dongjak-gu into a premium city.”
