Yangcheon-gu Conducts Intensive Hygiene Inspections on Daycare Center Meals to Prevent Summer Food Poisoning

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will conduct intensive inspections on meal hygiene and safety at 161 daycare centers within the district by August 9th to create a safe and clean childcare environment in preparation for the summer season, when food poisoning incidents are likely to occur.

The district conducts regular safety inspections twice a year, during the summer and winter seasons, targeting daycare centers. This summer safety inspection is especially designed to thoroughly check overall daycare safety, from food poisoning incidents common in summer to infectious diseases, typhoons, heavy rains, and other natural disasters, aiming to proactively prevent various safety accidents.

First, a self-inspection was conducted on all 201 daycare centers in the area, and among them, 161 centers (131 for meal and hygiene inspection, 30 for safety inspection) will be subject to on-site inspections by inspection teams composed of two members each.

The key inspection items include ▲ hygiene management of cooks, management of meal facilities and equipment, management of ingredients and menus in the meal and hygiene management field ▲ facility safety management, preparedness for summer disaster response, fire accident prevention, management of school transportation vehicles, and indoor air quality management in the safety management field.

Minor issues such as lack of knowledge of regulations will be corrected immediately on-site, and violations under the Infant Care Act will be subject to administrative measures according to relevant laws.

Meanwhile, the district conducted summer meal hygiene and safety inspections targeting 172 daycare centers in 2022 and 83 centers last year. In the second half of the year, it plans to focus on creating a trusted childcare environment through joint intensive inspections of children's school buses with the police station (October), on-site inspections of daycare play facilities (November to December), and winter safety inspections (December).

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “As the risk of food poisoning increases in the summer season, we are conducting meal hygiene and safety inspections so that our children can spend the summer healthily and safely.” He added, “We will continue to create a childcare environment that parents can trust by maintaining continuous management and thorough inspections.”
