Vivozon Receives IND Approval for Domestic Phase 2 Clinical Trial of Oral Non-Narcotic Analgesic 'VVZ-2471'

Vivozon, a company specializing in new drug development, announced on the 11th that it has received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for the Phase 2 clinical trial plan (IND) of the oral non-narcotic analgesic ‘VVZ-2471’.

The Phase 2 clinical trial will be conducted at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital and Seoul National University Hospital, targeting 90 patients with postherpetic neuralgia, with patient enrollment expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.

Previously, Vivozon verified the tolerability and safety of VVZ-2471 in a Phase 1 clinical trial conducted at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital.

The company’s strategy is to develop VVZ-2471, an oral analgesic, to create significant synergy with Opiranserin (VVZ-149), which was developed as an injectable. The multi-target non-narcotic analgesic Opiranserin injectable is being developed by the affiliate Vivozon Pharmaceuticals (082800), which has successfully completed Phase 3 clinical trials and is currently awaiting approval from the MFDS after applying for marketing authorization under the product name ‘Anapraju’.

A Vivozon representative stated, “Since VVZ-2471 is a new drug expanded based on the mechanism of action of Opiranserin, we have a very high expectation of clinical success internally,” adding, “We will actively develop it as a broad-spectrum oral analgesic by conducting additional Phase 2 clinical trials for central neuropathic pain and acute pain.”

Meanwhile, Vivozon is also developing VVZ-2471 as a treatment for drug addiction and narcotic addiction. The representative added, “Nonclinical studies have confirmed the potential of VVZ-2471 as a treatment for narcotic addiction,” and “We are planning a Phase 2 clinical trial in the U.S. for the treatment of opioid and other narcotic analgesic addiction and prevention of withdrawal symptoms, and will further explore its therapeutic efficacy for alcohol and nicotine addiction.”
