Muan Police Station Operates Driver's License Training Program for Foreigners

Collaboration with Muan-gun Family Center for Traffic Safety Education, Promotion, and License Acquisition Support

The Muan Police Station in Jeonnam (Chief Kang Yong-jun) is promoting a foreigner driver’s license class in collaboration with the Muan-gun Family Center to provide traffic safety education, publicity, and support for obtaining driver’s licenses for foreign residents.

According to Muan Police on the 11th, due to the increasing trend of unlicensed driving and drunk driving among foreign residents, the license class is being operated to ensure smooth settlement of foreign residents in Korea and secure traffic safety.

The driver’s license class, which began recruiting last month, attracted a total of 24 applicants including marriage migrant women and foreign students from various countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia. It received great response from migrant women who wanted to obtain a driver’s license but faced financial burdens and difficulties reading Korean.

In addition, easily confusing traffic laws such as the correct way to make a right turn and how to navigate roundabouts are explained in simple terms. Traffic safety guide flyers and promotional items (wet tissues, bandages, etc.) produced in-house are distributed, along with guidance on precautions when using personal mobility devices.

The driver’s license class goes beyond simple education or support for obtaining a license; it also serves as a channel for foreign residents to build rapport with police officers, making it one of the highly satisfactory community policing activities.

Chief Kang Yong-jun stated, “We will actively support foreign residents who face difficulties obtaining a driver’s license due to economic and language barriers, while continuously promoting traffic safety education and publicity activities to prevent traffic accidents involving foreigners.”
