A music and cultural festival will be held in Sorae Village, Seocho-gu, Seoul, known as a ‘small French village’ within Seoul. Seocho-gu announced that on the 15th, the ‘2024 Banpo Sorae Korea-France Music Festival’ will take place near the Seoul Regional Public Procurement Service in Sorae Village.

Sorae Village is an area with a large French resident population. Every year, Korean and French residents exchange their cultures through the Korea-France Music Festival. Marking its 13th year this year, the festival is expected to be a high-quality music event where about 2,000 residents and foreigners come together to strengthen friendship between the two countries and showcase sophisticated music and culture.

The music festival will proceed with side events starting at 4 PM, followed by the first and second parts of the music performances beginning at 5 PM. The performances from 5 PM will include ▲Pansori by ‘Lormapo,’ a sorikkun (traditional Korean singer) from France ▲a choir and band performance by students of the French School ▲1980s folk singer ‘Jang Gye-hyun’ ▲a collaboration performance of saenghwang (Korean mouth organ), piano, and Korean dance ▲an a cappella group ‘Soloists’ ▲a splendid orchestral performance by the brass band ‘Ninetideuk.’ Additionally, children from Banpo Sorae Daycare will present rhythmic movements and songs, and local residents will perform rhythmic gymnastics, taekwondo dance, ballet, Korean dance, and an orchestra performance by Ensemble A.

Food booths offering both traditional Korean and international dishes will operate from 4 PM. The Saemaeul Women’s Association will prepare bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), sikhye (sweet rice drink), and local merchants in Sorae Village, including French cheese specialty shops and dessert cafes, will offer various foreign foods such as bread, wine, cheese, coffee, and Turkish kebabs.

Various experience booths will also be available, including fan making, tuho (arrow throwing game), face painting, soap bubble play, and giant art balloons.

Jeon Seong-su, the head of Seocho-gu Office, said, “I hope this Korea-France Music Festival will be a great opportunity to showcase the high-quality music and culture of both countries,” and added, “We will continue to strive to establish this as a representative high-class music festival of Seocho-gu.”
