Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, “Filial Piety School Will Bridge Generational Gaps and Foster a Culture of Respect”
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su), which is making new history in filial piety administration, announced that it is recruiting participants on a first-come, first-served basis for the ‘Mapo Filial Piety School’ starting on June 22.
The ‘Filial Piety School’ is a customized lifelong education program prepared by Mapo-gu to prepare for a super-aged society and to spread a culture of filial piety in line with the times. It aims to deeply understand and practice filial piety through horizontal communication between generations.
This program will be held every Saturday at 10 a.m. from June 22 to July 13 at the Mapo Lifelong Learning Center, newly renovated and relocated to the 5th floor of Mapo Central Library. It is divided into three classes: Youth Class (youth and childless couples), Parent Class (parents with children), and Retirement Preparation Class (middle-aged and older adults). The tuition fee is free.
In the first session, along with the opening ceremony, there will be a time to redefine the meaning of filial piety with Professor Lee Ho-seon from Soongsil Cyber University, a family counseling expert, under the theme ‘Filial sons and daughters are made by their parents.’
In the second session, Professor Kwon Soo-young from Yonsei University will give a lecture explaining various family relationships and encouraging reflection on their boundaries.
In the third session, each class will have its own program. The Youth Class will learn about financial technology methods for social and personal filial piety with Kim Kyung-pil, CEO of Korea Money Training.
In the Parent Class, Director Lee Im-sook of Malgeun Forest Child and Adolescent Counseling Center will explain child-rearing methods to parents under the theme ‘Raising Our Children’s Self-Esteem for a Loving Family,’ and in the Retirement Preparation Class, Kim Kyung-rok, a top expert and advisor at Mirae Asset Retirement Research Institute, will give a lecture on financial technology and inheritance procedures to help middle-aged adults enjoy a happy retirement life.
In the final fourth session, a closing ceremony and graduation ceremony will be held along with a filial piety talk concert reviewing the lectures so far.
