Garak Mall Library Selected for '2024 Humanities on the Road' Project
Operating Literature Programs for Adults and Environmental Programs for Children
Held 12 Times from July to October in the Garak Mall Library Program Room
The Garak Mall Library, operated by the Seoul Agricultural & Marine Products Corporation (President Moon Young-pyo), has been selected as a target library for the ‘2024 Humanities on the Road’ project.
‘Humanities on the Road’ is a public contest project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean Library Association and the Arts Council Korea, providing library users with opportunities for humanities lectures and experiential activities.
In this contest, Garak Mall Library was selected for two programs: the adult program ‘Reading the Era through Literature’ and the children’s program ‘Environment and Food.’
‘Reading the Era through Literature’ is structured around reading and analyzing works by various authors focusing on contemporary literature, exploring the spaces within the works, and directly experiencing the foods featured in them.
Through this program, participants are expected to gain a broader perspective on the world, expand their literary knowledge, awareness, interpretation, and expression skills, and deepen their interest in the humanities.
The ‘Environment and Food’ program is designed as a time to learn about the impact of increasingly severe climate change on our dietary habits and to consider how we can contribute to sustainable food culture. Leveraging the expertise of a library specialized in food culture, the program will also include post-reading activities where participants make and taste dishes using endangered ingredients.
The Humanities on the Road programs will be held in the program room of Garak Mall Library located in Garak Market, Songpa-gu, with 12 lectures and explorations per program from July to October. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the library’s website.
For more details, please refer to the Garak Mall Library website or contact the library by phone.
Going forward, the Corporation and Garak Mall Library plan to continue operating various library programs to contribute to the local community.
