A post by Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, on his social media service (SNS) on the 10th
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Who benefits from the heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula?" and added, "Since the daily lives of residents in border areas are being threatened, we will take all legal measures, including strict crackdowns on leaflet distribution."
On the 10th, Governor Kim posted on his social media, rhetorically asking, "Who on earth benefits from the increased tensions on the Korean Peninsula?" He lamented, "The daily lives of residents in border areas are being threatened, normal economic activities are adversely affected, and this is causing a Korea discount."
He continued, "I urge the government not to overlook the distribution of leaflets to North Korea but to take practical measures, and to refrain from resuming loudspeaker broadcasts that could escalate into military conflict."
In particular, he emphasized, "While strengthening security posture, resume dialogue with North Korea." He added, "Gyeonggi Province is already operating an emergency response situation room, and if the security situation in border areas worsens, we will consider it a ‘disaster risk’ stage and take necessary legal actions such as designating danger zones and strictly cracking down on leaflet distribution in accordance with relevant laws."
Furthermore, he stated, "Going forward, (Gyeonggi Province) will ensure no gaps in protecting border area residents through organic cooperation with the military, police, and fire departments," and added, "We will do everything within our capacity."
