Korea Commission on Human Rights: No Violations Found in Allegations of Kim Geon-hee's Luxury Handbag Acceptance

"No Sanctions Regulations for Presidential Spouses"

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission concluded the misconduct report alleging that Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of President Yoon Seok-yeol, received luxury handbags with a finding of "no violation."

Jung Seung-yoon, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, stated at an emergency briefing on the afternoon of the 10th at the Government Sejong Complex regarding the "report of suspected violations of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act by public officials and their spouses," "There are no sanction regulations under the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act for the spouses of public officials concerning the president's spouse."

Vice Chairman Jung said, "After discussing the relevance to official duties and whether the matter involves presidential records concerning the president and the provider of the items, a decision was made to close the case," adding, "This corresponds to a reason for case closure under Article 14 of the Enforcement Decree of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act."

Earlier, the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy reported the case to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission last December, alleging violations of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act and other charges.
