50 Years of Seoul Subway Operation... Seoul Metro Invites Public to Donate Old Items

Seoul Metro Corporation (President Baek Ho) is holding an opportunity to collect donations of old items, photos, and other memorabilia containing citizens' memories in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Seoul subway.


The precious memories related to the Seoul subway gathered through this contest will be shared with citizens through various channels such as exhibitions. The submission period is 20 days, from the 7th to the 26th.


This contest accepts a wide range of items, not only old Seoul subway items and photos but also personal memorabilia related to the Seoul subway.


However, past tickets and items from within the last 10 years are excluded from acceptance. Items with unclear origin, acquisition route, or ownership, or those illegally obtained such as stolen goods, cannot be submitted, and there must be no legal issues. Ownership and disposal rights of the items after donation will belong to the corporation.



Documents (maps, blueprints, route maps, booklets, letters, leaflets, publications, posters, etc.)


Artifacts (medals, badges, uniforms, models, souvenirs, plaques, commemorative plates, etc.)


Old photos of the Seoul subway and any other items directly or indirectly related


(Example) Very personal items that serve as a medium of memory for the Seoul subway are also acceptable


※ Past tickets and items from within the last 10 years are excluded from acceptance


The submission period is 20 days from June 7 to June 26. Those wishing to participate should fill out the form posted on the corporation’s website and submit it by email or mail.

In-person submissions are not accepted, but postmarked mail by June 26 will be recognized.


Among those who submit entries in this contest, 30 people will be selected by lottery to receive Seoul Love Gift Certificates worth 10,000 KRW each. Additionally, the corporation plans to offer various benefits to the final selected donors, including issuance of donation certificates, publication of donor lists on the website, and presentation of commemorative gifts.

After the document submission deadline, the corporation will conduct two rounds of review and announce the contest results on its website in July. Donors will also be individually notified via text message.


Items that duplicate existing artifacts will be excluded first, and final donation selections will be made after comprehensive review of the items’ historic value, rarity, and preservation condition.


Only items that pass the donation review will be physically accepted in July.


Ma Hae-geun, head of the Seoul Metro Corporation Public Relations Office, said, “To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Seoul subway opening, we have prepared a platform to collect citizens’ memories and share them with the public. We hope many people will take interest and participate so that this contest can serve as a foundation for preserving subway history and passing it on to the future.”
