This year, Samsung Asset Management has emerged as the asset management company most chosen by pension fund investors.
Samsung Asset Management announced on the 10th that the total inflow of funds into Samsung pension funds this year amounted to 405.6 billion KRW, accounting for 18% of the total pension fund inflow of 2.2109 trillion KRW, ranking first. In the case of overseas equity pension funds, 127.3 billion KRW flowed into Samsung Asset Management products, accounting for 45% of the total inflow of 284.4 billion KRW.
The reason pension investors flock to Samsung Asset Management's overseas equity funds appears to be due to their high returns. The Samsung India Small and Mid-Cap FOCUS, which focuses intensively on Indian small and mid-cap stocks, maintains the highest return among all pension public funds with a one-year return of 64%. The Samsung Global Semiconductor Fund (UH), which focuses on the global semiconductor market, and the Samsung Pictet 4th Industrial Global Digital Fund (UH), which invests in leading global digital companies, also rank among the top with one-year returns of 52% and 50%, respectively.
Another distinguishing feature of Samsung Asset Management's overseas equity funds is their segmented product lineup. For India funds, three lineups are offered: the India Fund, which invests mainly in large-cap stocks; the India Small and Mid-Cap FOCUS, which invests in small and mid-cap stocks; and the India Small and Mid-Cap FOCUS40 for bond-mixed investments. Samsung Asset Management also offers AI investment products tailored to various investor needs, consisting of four concept products: hardware (semiconductors), software (Chat AI), virtual reality (Metaverse), and robotics (Pictet Robotics).
The overseas equity fund that pension investors newly invested in the most this year is the 'Samsung Global Semiconductor' fund. As the top-performing fund in the information technology (IT) sector, it recorded an inflow of 59.2 billion KRW as of the end of May, ranking first among all overseas equity funds. Launched in 2021, the fund selects and invests in top semiconductor industry companies based on sales.
The 'Samsung Global Chat AI Fund,' a representative AI software fund, also attracted pension investors' attention by recording a 40% return within one year since its launch in May last year.
Shin Jae-kwang, Executive Director at Samsung Asset Management, said, "Recently, young pension investors who prepare their pension assets early after retirement tend to actively invest in overseas equity funds with expected long-term growth potential, such as the Global Semiconductor Fund and the India Small and Mid-Cap Fund." He added, "Samsung Asset Management will continue to enhance operational performance and expand a fund lineup suitable for mid- to long-term pension investments to help pension investors secure stable retirement assets."
