Recently, over 100 first aid specialists have been certified on a university campus.
The University Job Plus Center at Silla University (President Heo Namsik) announced on the 10th that it has trained first aid specialists through its first aid specialist training program.
From May 9 to 30, the University Job Plus Center conducted four sessions of specialized education in ‘CPR’ and ‘sports taping’ as part of the first aid specialist training program, with more than 100 trainees participating.
According to the 12th Acute Cardiac Arrest Survey Symposium by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the number of acute cardiac arrest patients transported by the 119 emergency medical service in 2022 was 35,018, and this number has been increasing every year, along with the survival rate. In particular, the number of cases where bystanders perform CPR has shown an increasing trend annually, and the survival rate is 2.1 times higher when CPR is performed by laypersons.
The Silla University Job Plus Center emphasized to trainees the importance of first aid for cardiac arrest patients and highlighted the ‘miracle of four minutes’?the ability to save a life with accurate CPR within the golden time of four minutes.
The center also operated a specialist training program on proper understanding of common sports injuries in daily life and methods of sports taping by area and type of sport, as well as other response techniques.
This program did not stop at theoretical knowledge but maximized learning effectiveness by allowing trainees to directly experience practical exercises.
Jang Heejung, head of the Silla University Job Plus Center, stated, “Through this first aid specialist training program, we have secured personnel who can respond to emergency situations that may arise unexpectedly not only on campus but in any field,” and added, “We expect that by training specialists who can respond immediately on site, we will contribute to the spread of a safety culture that helps protect the precious lives and safety of citizens.”
