Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held the opening ceremony of the ‘Dongseon Art Village’ on the 8th in collaboration with Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH).
Local art groups and residents of Dongseon Art Village also attended the event.
‘Dongseon Art Village’ is customized rental housing for artists. Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation purchased and supplied the housing, while the district office conducted the selection process for tenants. After the selection process in April, 27 households and prospective tenants were chosen, and as of June 8, 25 households have moved in.
‘Dongseon Art Village’ consists of one building with one basement floor and 11 above-ground floors, housing 27 units for 1-2 person households, and includes community spaces where artists can interact. The exclusive area ranges from 29.85 to 33.37㎡, with deposits between 18.6 million and 23.62 million KRW, and monthly rents ranging from 191,600 to 243,500 KRW.
The move-in to ‘Dongseon Art Village’ is expected to further strengthen the district’s ‘Cultural City Seongbuk’ plan by providing local artists with housing welfare guarantees, creating a more stable environment that allows them to focus on their creative activities.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “The artist rental housing project in Seongbuk-gu, which began in Jeongneung 4-dong in 2016, has borne its third fruit with ‘Dongseon Art Village’ thanks to long-term consistent interest and continuous efforts. Seongbuk-gu will continue to make multifaceted efforts to create a cultural and artistic ecosystem for local artists.”
