Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will hold a commemorative event on the 12th at Konkuk University’s Saecheonnyun Hall to mark June as the ‘Month of Patriots and Veterans.’
The event is prepared to honor the spirit of sacrifice of the patriots and war heroes who sacrificed for the country and nation, and to express gratitude and consolation to the families of veterans.
According to the district, there are nine veterans organizations in the area, including the Disabled Veterans Association, the Meritorious Service Association, and the Agent Orange Veterans Association, with a total of 2,810 veterans or their families receiving recognition and support.
The district has strengthened its veterans policies to raise awareness of patriotism in the community and to express gratitude to veterans’ families. The number of invitees to this commemorative event has been greatly expanded, inviting about 700 national merit recipients and their families. At the entrance of the performance hall, a veterans photo exhibition and poetry and painting exhibition are prepared to provide special attractions. In particular, the Ministry of National Defense military band is invited to honor the veterans’ families and create a dignified occasion of consolation.
The event, starting at 3 p.m., will proceed in the order of a pre-ceremony performance, the main ceremony, and a commemorative performance. The pre-ceremony performance will feature a 30-minute show by the veterans hall Nanta team composed of veterans members, sand art, and the military band performance. With the cooperation of the Seoul Regional Veterans Office, the Ministry of National Defense military band will present a high-quality performance.
The main ceremony will include a calligraphy performance by artist Kim So-young, representative of Geulsidang, under the theme “Great Devotion, Forever in Our Hearts,” presentation of appreciation plaques to nine Gwangjin-gu branch heads who contributed to the development of veterans organizations, and commendations for 17 exemplary merit recipients.
The event will conclude with performances such as Korean traditional a cappella, Namdo Sogo dance, Gwangjin-gu Women’s Choir, and fusion Korean traditional music.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I express my deep respect and gratitude to those who have devoted themselves to the country. We will never forget their noble sacrifice and will engrave it deeply in our hearts.” He added, “We will continue to expand recognition and policy support for veterans’ families so that national merit recipients and their families can live with pride and stability.”
Meanwhile, the district is making efforts to honor and support veterans by increasing the veterans allowance (from 50,000 to 70,000 won), providing consolation money to Korean War veterans, expanding support for the veterans hall, and promoting the construction of memorial monuments for veterans.
