Unraveling the Origins of Place Names and Legends in Yangju Region

Former National Assembly Member Kim Seongsu, Author of 'Yangju Cultural Journey'... Publication Celebration on the 18th

Former National Assembly member Kim Seong-su's book, "Yangju Cultural Journey 2 - In Search of Place Names and Legends," will have its publication celebration on the 18th of this month at 3 PM in the Convention Hall on the 1st floor of the Gyeonggi Textile Comprehensive Support Center in Sanbuk-dong, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do.

"Yangju Cultural Journey 2 - In Search of Place Names and Legends" is a book compiled by former Assembly member Kim, whose hometown is Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, gathering the origins of place names and legends from the Yangju region. This new release comes 13 years after the first book of the same name was published in 2011 in the form of a travelogue.

Kim, who has lived in the Gwangsan Kim clan village in Majon-dong, Yangju for 15 generations, traveled throughout every corner of Yangju, his roots and political foundation, recording and organizing the memories of elderly residents.

The book covers everything from the glory of Yangjumok, once said to rival the Pyeongyang magistrate during the Joseon Dynasty, to the pain of delayed development after the Korean War due to the concentration of military facilities, and up to the present day as a key area in northern Gyeonggi Province. It encompasses Kim’s profound affection for his hometown, extensive knowledge, and nearly obsessive dedication to research.

Kim explained, “Although Yangju has long been an important site in Korean Peninsula history, it has been difficult to find a book that fully illuminates its proud history. This book is my desperate effort to pass on even a single piece of Yangju’s history to future generations, and it embodies the urgent need to discuss regional development based on that pride.”

Kim served as the 3rd member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council and the 18th National Assembly member (Yangju·Dongducheon, Grand National Party). He graduated from Korea University with a degree in Education and currently holds positions such as Chairman of the Forum K Vision Corporation, Special Professor at Daejin University, Full-time Professor at the Korea Freedom Federation, Standing Auditor Advisor at Korea Electric Power Technology, and Policy Advisor at Seoul Metro.
