The Silver Children's Song Festival, held at the Icheon Art Hall Grand Theater, was organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of 'Bandal,' the first original children's song in Korea by teacher Yun Geuk-young.
Notably, this children's song festival was held for seniors rather than children, drawing attention. At the event, 20 senior mixed and choir teams aged 60 and above from across the country, who passed the preliminary round in April, performed on the final stage.
The competition featured teams with various touching stories, including a mixed choir couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary, the Hanyu Choir (Korean Breast Cancer Patients Choir) who participated after overcoming severe illness, and the Childhood Friends team who prepared for the competition while reminiscing with hometown friends.
The grand prize was awarded to the Solbit Sori Choir team, who sang 'Apeuro.' Additionally, the gold prize went to The Brothers (Hwibrothers) for 'The Night Sky is Beautiful,' silver prizes to Chudongbok for 'Geumgangsan' and Childhood Friends for 'Seomjip Agi,' and bronze prizes to Osan Mulhyanggi Senior Choir, Eunpa Choir, Goun Sori Silver Choir, Queens Singers, and Icheon Senior Choir, respectively.
Kim Kyung-hee, mayor of Icheon City, stated, "We will support holding the National Silver Children's Song Festival annually to establish it as a children's song cultural festival that transcends generations."
