Shin Jin-seo 9-dan and Writer Jung Eun-hye Selected for 'PonyJeong Young Leader Award'

Awards Ceremony to Be Held on the 16th of Next Month

The Ponyjeong Foundation announced on the 10th that it has selected professional Go player Shin Jin-seo 9-dan and artist and actress Jung Eun-hye as the recipients of the 5th 'Ponyjeong Young Leader Award,' which is given to young innovators in our society.

Jung Mong-kyu, chairman of the Ponyjeong Foundation, said, "Shin Jin-seo 9-dan is leading the Korean Go community with outstanding skills, and artist Jung Eun-hye has contributed to breaking social prejudices against people with developmental disabilities through her diverse artistic activities."


Since entering professional Go in 2012, Shin Jin-seo 9-dan has recorded a total of 1,018 matches with 803 wins, 1 draw, 213 losses, and 1 invalid game, dominating all fields including most wins, winning percentage, and prize money, making him a superstar of Korean Go. He holds a total of 37 championship titles. Last August, Shin Jin-seo 9-dan won the 9th Ing Cup, known as the 'Go Olympics,' as well as the gold medal in the men's team event and bronze medal in the individual event at the Hangzhou Asian Games. In the Nongshim Shin Ramyun Cup, a national team competition, Shin 9-dan played as the last player and consecutively defeated five Chinese players and one Japanese player, achieving the first-ever six consecutive wins to finish as champion in the tournament's history.

Jung Eun-hye, a developmentally disabled artist who appeared in the 2022 drama 'Our Blues,' actively communicates with the public through various works including caricatures of people, dogs, cats, trees, and flowers. Since 2016, Jung Eun-hye has created caricatures of about 5,000 people and was an artist-in-residence at the Jamsil Creative Studio of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture from 2019 to 2020. With warm colors and a distinctive painting style, she held an exhibition in New York, USA last year and continues to be active both domestically and internationally. Through lectures, she inspires hope and courage in people with disabilities.


The Ponyjeong Young Leader Award is the second Ponyjeong Innovation Award established in 2020 to support young innovators. To continue the spirit of innovation and challenge of the late Chung Se-young, founder of Hyundai Motor Company and honorary chairman of HDC Group (formerly Hyundai Development Company), known as ‘PONY 鄭 (Ponyjeong),’ two innovators under the age of 40 who have brought about positive change with a progressive spirit are selected and each awarded a prize of 50 million won and a plaque. The Ponyjeong Young Leader Award ceremony will be held on the 16th of next month at the Ponyjeong Foundation Building in Sinmunno 2-ga, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
